The Oncology Department of Harbin Clinic has been named the Practice of the Year for 2010 and 2011 by the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO). GASCO is the professional organization representing physicians specializing in cancer care and their clinical, administrative and patient navigator support staff. According to GASCO President, Dr. Jose Tongol, a medical oncologist in Albany, the award was presented to the Harbin Clinic Oncology Department in recognition of its commitment to excellence and its support of the cancer care community in Georgia. Selection is also based on commitment to research, active participation in GASCO, participation in GASCO educational offerings and programs sponsored by the Georgia Center for Oncology Research and education and participation in the leadership of GASCO and the Georgia Cancer Coalition and Georgia CORE. The selection committee also considers the practice's contribution to quality of care, survivorship or others areas of leadership by members of the practice.

Harbin Clinic is a team composed of more than 200 providers and 1,400 employees in 20 locations throughout North West Georgia. But this is only part of the team. Approximately 1,000 other physicians not directly associated with Harbin Clinic from throughout North West Georgia and Alabama regularly refer patients to Harbin Clinic and collaborate on care.

Research and clinical trials conducted by the Harbin Clinic cancer specialists and staff, in partnership with leading academic and cancer centers around the world, benefit Harbin patients and the world-wide field of cancer treatment. Harbin Clinic Cancer Center is typically involved in more than 45 clinical trials, and is the only private clinic in the state named an affiliate of the Atlanta Regional Community Clinical Oncology Program which provides access to a wide range of clinical trials. Harbin Clinic Cancer Center is a member of the Accelerated Community Oncology Research Network (ACORN).
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) throughout Harbin Clinic and area hospitals enable faster, more accurate diagnoses and treatments. Our EMR integrates with both Floyd Medical Center and Redmond Regional Medical Center’s records.
Because cancer is a complex disease, the treatment process can seem overwhelming. Nurse Navigators provided by Rome-based Cancer Navigators, Inc. organization are here to simplify everything from communication with doctors to appointment schedules.
Preventing cancer is the ultimate goal of our outreach programs. By offering cancer prevention methods, such as smoking cessation referrals, we try to lessen a person’s likelihood of developing cancer. However, early detection is important when cancer is diagnosed. Our advanced diagnostic methods help detect cancer early and can improve patients’ survival rates.
Harbin Clinic Medical Oncology services include doctors who specialize in the medical treatment of cancer patients using chemotherapy, hormones, and biologics. Harbin Clinic medical oncologists are actively involved in many clinical trials and national research studies, and provide treatment based on this cutting-edge research.
Within the Medical Oncology service is a state-of-the-art Infusion Center where patients receive medical treatments in a technologically advanced, safe, and comfortable environment.
Harbin Clinic Radiation Oncology services provide cancer patients with some of the world’s most advanced physician directed cancer treatment technologies. The cutting-edge services include Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT), Brachytherapy, Prostate Seeds Implants, Mammosite Therapy, and Integrated Treatments which combines treatment options for improved outcomes.
For many cancer patients, Harbin Clinic Cancer Center provides Integrated Oncology Care with Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology services working together to maximize outcomes. While many cancer centers offer radiation or medical oncology services or services that operate in isolation from the other, the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center team works together to provide the best treatment options for each patient.

Led by Matthew P. Mumber, M.D., a Harbin Clinic radiation oncologist and expert in integrative therapy, our Integrative Oncology program combines conventional medicine with a focus on nutrition and other evidence-based strategies to create a comprehensive approach to healing.
Cancer survivors continue to need specialized care to achieve optimal health and restore their quality of life. Our survivorship program provides treatment follow-up strategies, long-term side effect management and access to support resources.
The Harbin Clinic Cancer Center treatment and post-treatment wellness programs include nutritional resources, Cancer Well Fit exercise classes, and stress management classes. We are looking to further expand our wellness offerings in the future.
The staff at Harbin Clinic Cancer Center believes that an educated patient is an empowered patient. Within the cancer center, Cancer Navigators, Inc. provides a library of resources for cancer patients and their families. A conference center is located on the third floor of Harbin Clinic Cancer Center. Community education events, patient lectures, and physician meetings are hosted in the conference center.
Cancer Navigators Resource Library
The Cancer Navigators Resource Library and Counseling Center is located on the third floor of Harbin Clinic Cancer Center. Cancer Navigators is a Rome-based, not-for-profit organization that provides services to cancer patients and their families. Services include Nurse Navigators who guide patients through treatment; Service Navigators who help patients access community social services; and Education Navigators who provide information on the total spectrum of cancer care.
The Breast Center at Floyd
The Breast Center at Floyd provides women with complete breast care beginning with education and continuing with screening, diagnostics and rapid results. The center’s female primary care providers offer a comprehensive screening process that complements the standard mammogram with a clinical breast examination, breast self exam education, and lifetime risk assessment.
Rome Imaging Center
Located on the first floor of Harbin Clinic Cancer Center, Rome Imaging Center is a joint venture/partnership among Floyd Hospital, Redmond Regional Medical Center and Rome Radiology. Rome Imaging Center provides Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans of cancer patients combined with traditional Computer Assisted (CT) technology. These detailed scans produce images using two different modalities and are critical for the diagnosis and treatment of many types of cancer.
