Our Nurses
Our highly skilled and caring oncology nurses provide both education and compassion throughout every phase of your treatment. Most of our Registered Nurses are nationally certified through the Oncology Nurses Society. They want to put their experience to work for your benefit. Please never hesitate to ask a question or express a concern.
If you will be undergoing chemotherapy, you and your family will be introduced to your nurse case manager who will provide on-going education and support during your treatment phase. Our nurses want to know if something is causing you a problem, so they can work with your physician to best support you through your treatment.
Laboratory Technologists
Tests are performed in our laboratory utilizing state-of-the-art equipment. Specially trained lab personnel perform the tests, and the results can be discussed with your physician during your visit. Some tests are sent out for review and may take some time before results are available.
Our Pharmacist
We have a full-time pharmacist associated with our cancer center. The pharmacist is responsible for mixing the chemotherapy products for patients undergoing cancer treatment and is specially trained to support cancer patients being cared for by our specialists. The pharmacist provides support to both physicians and nurses allowing them to perform more complicated therapies in the outpatient setting rather than in the hospital.
Medical Physicists
Medical Physicists are responsible for the protection of the patient and others from potentially harmful or excessive radiation; establishment of adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry; the measurement and characterization of radiation; the determination of delivered dose; equipment safety and calibration; development and direction of quality assurance programs; and providing assistance to other health care professionals in optimizing the balance between the beneficial and deleterious effects of radiation.
Medical Dosimetrists
Medical dosimetrists design treatment plans by means of computer and/or manual computation that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription. Prior to the development of the patient’s treatment plan, the Dosimetrist must consult with the physician to determine the targeted volume of the disease and its surrounding area, and to ascertain which normal tissues need to be avoided. The complexity of the disease and a patient's underlying health problems frequently require that several plans be computed. The Radiation Oncologist, along with the Medical Physicist, will make the decision as to which plan will serve the patient's best interests. The Dosimetrist may then calculate the doses and explain the treatment plan to the Therapists who are responsible for administering the daily treatments.
Radiation Therapists
Radiation Therapists work as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Dosimetrists, and Oncology Nurses to provide the best treatment delivery and support available. The Radiation Therapists perform the patient’s simulation procedures for treatment planning, provide verification of accurate and precise daily treatment set ups, deliver the prescribed daily radiation treatment, and always acts in the best interest of the patient.
