Harbin Clinic Sleep Disorders Center in Rome Receives Program Accreditation

ROME, Ga., April 23, 2012 – Harbin Clinic Sleep Disorders Center in Rome recently received program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Harbin Clinic Sleep Disorders Center on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. Nancy Collop, AASM president. “The Harbin Clinic Sleep Disorders Center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”

To receive a five-year accreditation, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center’s facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts, and physician training. Additionally, the facility’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine is a professional medical society for clinicians, researchers, and other health care providers in the field of sleep medicine. As the national accrediting body for sleep disorders centers and labs, the AASM is dedicated to setting standards and promoting excellence in sleep medicine health care, education and research.

Harbin Clinic Cancer Center Radiation Oncology Receives National Recognition

March 13, 2012 – The Radiation Oncology Department of Harbin Clinic’s Cancer Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).

The recognition continues a long list of awards and accreditations for the Harbin Clinic Cancer program.  Harbin Clinic’s cancer program has been recognized as Georgia’s top cancer program for the past 2 years by the Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology (GASCO).  Treatment services were consolidated in one location in April 2011 with the opening of the Harbin Clinic Tony E. Warren Cancer Center.

Radiation oncology (radiation therapy) is the careful use of high-energy radiation to treat cancer. A radiation oncologist may use radiation to cure cancer or to relieve a cancer patient’s pain.

The ACR-ASTRO seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR and ASTRO after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
