Vascular Ultrasound Services

At the Harbin Clinic Vein Center, all vascular ultrasound services are provided by a laboratory accredited with the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). The Harbin Clinic Vascular Laboratory is dedicated to the diagnosis of vascular disease. It is staffed with highly skilled vascular sonographers.

This accredited laboratory is committed to quality care. ICAVL accredited labs are required to have a very detailed quality assurance program. This is an ongoing process of continuous monitoring of qualityand adherence to strict standards set forth by ICAVL. We are very pleased to have a working relationship with a vascular lab that has beenaccredited in venous, arterial, and extracranial examinations since 1993 and they have more recently added the visceral vascular accreditation to their list of accomplishments.

The exams that the vascular lab will be performing for our patients are venous insufficiency and venous imaging exams. Both exams utilize ultrasound. Ultrasound is a non-invasive testing modality that uses high frequency sound waves to “see” inside the body. The venous insufficiency exam is a very detailed exam that will take approximately 1½ hours per leg. The sonographer will create a “road map” of your veins and will help the physician determine if you have any venous reflux or venous insufficiency. Venous reflux or insufficiency is foundin a majority of patients that have large varicose veins. After the sonographer gathers the information it will be evaluated by the vascularsurgeon and the physician will discuss an individualized treatment planwith the patient. Venous imaging is performed one week post op. This will ensure the vascular surgeon that the procedure was a success.
