Harbin Clinic Ophthalmologist, Dr. Paul Harton, Presents Cutting Edge Research to the American College of Eye Surgeons in San Juan, Puerto Rico

February, 14, 2013 - Dr. Paul Harton of the Harbin Clinic Eye Center recently presented cutting edge research at the American College of Eye Surgeons / Society for Excellence in Eyecare (ACES/SEE) meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico.  This prestigious annual meeting of a few hundred of the world’s leading eye surgeons aims to disseminate the latest information on a variety of topics to its members.

Dr. Harton is working with Ophthalmology Hall of Fame Member, Dr. Jack Holladay, to research and improve the accuracy of intraocular lens implant (IOL) calculations for cataract surgery patients. The present research with Dr. Harton involves collecting high resolution ultrasound images preoperatively on cataract surgery patients to visualize structures inside of the eye.  By doing this it may be possible to more accurately predict where the lens implant will come to rest after cataract surgery.  There are only a few physicians in the world performing this particular high resolution ultrasonic research.

Dr. Harton received his Medical Doctorate degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He completed an internship and residency at Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology, Columbus, Ohio. He received his Pharmacy Doctorate degree from Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, Columbus, Ohio. He joined the Harbin Clinic in 1999. He has performed over 10,000 cataract surgeries and was also the first surgeon in Georgia to perform an implantable contact lens (ICL) surgery after FDA approval. Currently, Dr. Harton is an invited speaker on a variety of refractive surgery topics in both in the US and internationally. He has been involved in the training of hundreds of surgeons on ICL implantation techniques.
